The key to a defensible e-discovery process is a thorough identification, collection and preservation of any relevant electronically stored information (ESI). Finding all the relevant data is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack, it might be on one desktop PC or spread all over the corporation.
Historically, the process of gathering unstructured ESI is labor intensive. Each custodian’s hard drive needed to be individually mirrored. While it was being mirrored that custodian was out of action. And, since the only real option was to collect all the data on each custodian the amount of irrelevant data collected was huge, increasing work load and expense of secure storage.
VeAGENT™ is a new component of our VeHOLD™ litigation hold solution that solves most of these historical problems.
VeAGENT is a JAVA based application that sits on any targeted laptop, desktop, mobile device or server. Once installed VeAGENT will gather identified ESI based on criteria determined by the administrator and then send only the relevant ESI to a central secure storage location.
While the agent resides on each custodian, control and management of the process is from a single command center desktop location. The selection of custodians to be searched, search criteria, and search scheduling is also controlled at the central command center eliminating the need to send someone to physically mirror each custodian and capture all the data.
Even the installation of the agent on each custodian can be done from the central command center eliminating the need to send an IT resource to visit each custodian.
Since the agent resides locally on the custodian it can not only reactively capture any existing data but can continue to proactively capture data and send new, potentially relevant data , to storage to improve defensibility.
Additionally, and really importantly, since the first pass data filtering is done at the local custodian level only potentially relevant data is collected and stored. This drastically minimizes the volume of ESI that must be stored and secured often by as much as 80%. The further benefit is this limits the load on other business critical IT infrastructure.
Once the relevant data is securely in litigation hold it can then be searched and reviewed using our easy to use VeREVIEW™ solution.
